Chic Spring Wedding in Delhi With A Minimalistic Bride!

A bride who wore an "Anarkali gown" instead of a traditional lehenga? You know that gets our attention rightaway. Rhea is not the conventional bride you see, she's worked out a smart plan to look different on her wedding day and hence, the "Anarkali gown" in bright popping red and an Emerald jadau set that took her style up another notch. Decor was pretty - with lots of white and pink roses and everyday objects like mini kadais and glass bottles taking centrestage as decor. Photography by Through the Barrel was so alluring and on fleek - we love!
Meet Rhea & Arjun
"Arjun and I met in high school! We started dating in the 12th grade, and have been together ( on and off) since then. We are both drastically different, yet very very similar, which is probably why through 12 years of figuring out whether we were meant to be together or not, we've always been best friends. Corny, yes, but true.
I think there was a time where we both realised who were we kidding, this is it. The best part about this wedding was that over the years, we have developed such strong relationships with each other's friends and families, who had seen us through our best and worst times, so this wedding was going to be a blast, because almost everyone who was attending it had, in one way or another, been an important influence in our lives and relationship. Not a lot of couples have the privilege of saying that," says Rhea.
The Wedding
From The Bride:
"While Arjun was in Boston for his MBA during the planning process, we managed to coordinate this entire wedding over email and con-calls. The wedding was in March, which was supposed to be the perfect weather, lets just say everything that could go wrong- did. During the Mehendi which was an outdoor event, suddenly it was the hottest day recorded in that month. The Sangeet the next day was at night and there was a dust storm which knocked most of the decor over. And the wedding day- there was heavy rain and a hail storm. We still managed to have a blast at each.
As far as the wedding was concerned, I was always certain about two things, I wanted white to be a central colour theme at the wedding and I wanted to wear red. When we met Gautami, she got the brief almost instantly- shabby chic spring picnic. We had carefully selected every piece of decor to get the look together, a rustic vintage chandelier with green leaf accents, a white carpet for an aisle, fairy lights as the main lighting element, giant tea pots and cups as centre-pieces, and old books to make up for the decor. The primary colours were grey, blush and white," says Rhea.
"However, the weather as usual decided to act up, so it started pouring. And we really couldn't use the outdoor set up. While luckily there was a indoor hall that they managed to quickly set up, we got married amidst the rain, under umbrellas held up through the wedding in shifts by my brother and his friends, with our closest friends and family around us, under their sarees and dupattas for cover.
My wedding outfit was done by Bhavya Bhatnagar. I love Bhaavya's work, her designs are clean understated statement pieces, and I love that. I was very particular about not wearing the traditional lehenga, so we worked out an 'Anarkali Gown' in a deep red, with tone on tone embroidery at the bottom and cut-outs at the waist. I didnt want my hair tied in the regular bridal bun, so we managed to leave it open, with a long red veil. I think my wedding outfit was and is my favourite look . And the best part- I CAN WEAR IT AGAIN! What was most important to me through all my looks, and that was the brief I followed through make up and hair and my outfits- was that I didn't want to look or feel like someone else. I see a lot of brides that look completely different on their wedding day, swimming under a sea and layers of make up and fabric, and it really looks like a chore to carry off both. So post the ceremony, all my jewellery was off, and I switched from heels to wedged sneakers that were a rage in the 90's. They gave me perfect elevation, hid under my wedding dress, and were so so so comfortable," adds Rhea.
"I started referencing a year in advance and WedMeGood was my go-to for everything that was an absolute YES to an absolute NO. I saw Jasmeet, Gautami and Pranav's work on Wed Me Good and then went on to their personal work profile to have a look at their complete work," adds Rhea.
