Trousseau building can be an exhausting, challenging and downright frustrating exercise for a bride-to-be. Every bride wants to look her best but sometimes is unsure of what colour to choose. Most tend to play it safe and go with red as it is common in Indian tradition. And many are just too shy to experiment with other colours! Perhaps the first and one of the most important tasks for a bride- to-be is to get her choice of colour right (almost as important as choosing the groom!). Everything starts from here.

Not just this, but the jewellery you wear also makes a huge impact! Your choice here can easily make or break the entire outfit. Selecting the right jewellery shape, metal and yes, colour makes a lot of difference.

Another aspect is choosing the right fit per your body shape which directly translates to how you will look in the all-important wedding photographs! Every bride wants to look proportionate – if you look heavier on the top, you will look bulky in the pictures and vice versa. But if you understand your body type and know how to pick the right fit, it will go a long way in helping you look picture-perfect on your big day. In some cases, a classic lehenga is ideal but in others, a saree can weave its own magic!

To help you with some of the dilemmas you face, here are a few quick tips & tricks that you can keep in mind which will also save you time and money to boot! Not to mention that with these tricks, you can keep repeating that jewellery or outfit as many times as you want because it suits you perfectly. Gone are the days of wearing your wedding outfit only once and banishing it to the back of your cupboard, never to be worn again!

Tip 1: Identify your skin tone

Check if you are a warm or a cool tone. A quick way to check is if your veins are blue to purple colour, you are a cool undertone. Veins with a green/ olive colour indicates a warm undertone. For warm tone, choose your outfit in red, orange, yellow, burnt orange, green and for cooler tones, go for blue, pink, violet, blue violet, red violet, teal etc.

Tip 2: Identify your body shape

If your body shape is an inverted triangle (shoulders wider than hips), avoid a heavy blouse on top and shift the work on the lehenga skirt instead. This will take the attention below and make you look proportionate.

For a triangular body shape (shoulder narrower than hips), you can easily opt for a heavy blouse and a plain or a lighter lehenga skirt. This will direct the attention upwards and make you look proportionate.

If you want to look taller, get lighter fabrics like chiffon/ georgette in a monochromatic tone. This means choose your outfit in one shade or hue of the same colour.

Tip 3: Silver or Gold Jewellery?

Put a silver earring on one ear and a golden one on the other; try and keep them both the same length. Cover half your face and see which side looks brighter. This way, you will know if you should wear gold or silver jewellery.

Tip 4: Face shape matters

If you have a small face, avoid wearing a matha patti as it will make your face look even smaller. Keep the forehead clear!

Brides with a triangular face, hoop earrings are the best for you as it will soften the jawline. On the other hand, if you have a round face, wear narrow shaped earrings and V shape necklaces.

Tip 5: Your groom's outfit matters too

To ensure the grooms outfit compliments yours on the big day, ask (correction; make!) him include some element of the dominant colour of your dress. It can be as subtle as a pocket square or a tie or if he is a little bolder, then something like his sehra or stole.
