An Outdoor Mumbai Wedding at Mahalaxmi Race Course : Ameesha & Jai

Three things struck me about this Mumbai wedding story. First that the bride is a total cutie and has an uncanny resemblance to Aria from Pretty Little Liars (Sitcom addicts we are at WMG . By the way what is up with that show- it has gone totally cray-cray on its viewers and is a mess to keep up with) . Second that the bride found her wedding outfit years (yes YEARS) before her wedding (and I thought I found mine too early!). Third that haldi yellow flowers + Lotus motifs = simple, effective and earthy Indian decor!

Meet Ameesha & Jai

While they met through their parents, they actually dated for a couple of months. Then Jai asked Ameesha's parents for permission to ask her to marry him and on their approval he popped the question to her. So while the set up was arranged there was a whole lot of love going on in the background!

Hi Ameesha, Tell us about your events.

We had a poolside Mehendi, followed by an absolutely insane Bollywood Sangeet , Wedding and finally Reception! The funnest part of the wedding was the sangeet. I am a complete Bollywood freak and my sangeet was replete with dance performance by family and a crazy after-party. My friend DJ Bunty from Tryst was on the decks for that night and he made sure that everyone from the youngest to the oldest did not leave the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning! We worked on a innovative concept with Bunty.  He has introduced LED nights which moved with music in a variety of colours, leading the ambience of the event to become like a nightclub!

I worked with people who I was comfortable with or I had worked with earlier , so that made a big difference. I think more than anything be comfortable around the people planning your wedding and then relax. I was extremely particular about every small thing but eventually I kept reminding myself to enjoy this once in a lifetime experience!

Sounds like so much fun ! So tell us about how you found your outfit ages before the wedding ! My wedding lehenga was something I had decided years ago. I had seen Anand Kabra's Kumari collection at the Lakme Fashion Week and it made such an impression on me that I remember thinking when I saw it that this was the lehenga I would wear for my wedding! I love the mix of old and new design elements on the lehenga.

So when the day came to order my lehenga, I called Anand personally and went to Hyderabad to meet with him. I had decided more or less on the lehenga design, just the small variations had to be worked out. Anand was so patient as my mother and I debated the finer points of the red colour I wanted for the lehenga.
His execution was flawless as I didn't have to alter a single thing when the outfit arrived!
For my Mehendi I wanted a very traditional look, so I went to Ratanshree Kheraj in Mumbai and bought their Benarasi lehenga, but to give it a modern twist I gave it to a very close family friend and extremely talented designer called Dhruti Shah.  For my Sangeet, I was browsing through Aza when I saw beautiful mirror work blouses and sarees by designer Arpita Mehta.  She completely personalised the lehenga for me, from the work to the colours. My reception outfit was from Sushma sarees

You hired a vendor from the WMG Handbook for your makeup ! Reviews about Priya please.

The makeup for all my functions was done by Priya Todarwal. I trust Priya completely and I wasn't stressed as she worked on me, leaving most decisions upto her! She also is a very calming person and pampers you completely.
