A wedding with eye-catching decor, contemporary outfits for Mehendi and Haldi, classically traditional Kanjivaram's for wedding and reception, and a bride radiating with happiness, this one definitely had us swooning. From their unplanned proposal to the super intimate at-home Mehendi and Haldi, their celebrations were all about love. The decor by Poonam Mayank Sharma★ 4.8 , was simply beautiful, whether it was the smaller home functions or the grand wedding and reception at JW Marriott, Bangalore. And photography by Manan Photography★ 4.9 and Roma Ganesh Photography★ 5 took the entire thing up a notch!

Meet Priyanka & Karthik

Priyanka shares the deets on how they met and how Karhtik proposed her, "So, our parents have been best friends for the last 20 years, but we never really knew each other. One day, at a cousin's wedding, we were introduced to each other. It was awkward at first because we knew we were being brought together with the intention of getting married. However, we started talking to each other than night, and then continued on over whatsapp and dates. It was slowly, but surely, that we realized we were meant to be. The proposal was the most unplanned one. One day, while on a drive, I just randomly mentioned to him that my mother suggested I should meet some more boys for marriage purposes. He freaked out and immediately pulled up the car to the left on the highway. We opened up the sky roof, stuck our heads out under the starry night and there he was, asking me to marry him. Of course he didn’t plan the proposal and that’s what was so beautiful about it. Seeing his cute face, I couldn’t say anything else but YES."

The Wedding

From The Bride:

I say that Planning your own wedding is one of the most exciting as well as a thrilling and exhausting feeling. It happens only once in a lifetime and is one of the most fun and the most important events in our lives. Wedding planners , designers are extremely important. My only advice will be to start planning your wedding well in advance so you can besatisfied with all the vendors you choose, and all the best to all the beautiful brides out there! So, with my wedding as well, my mother, Poonam Mayank Sharma and I, sat over and over again and planned the wedding to the smallest detail. We wanted to have a very contemporary yet traditional wedding. The décor was well thought of and very tastefully planned. We planned life size letters of our name initials with a backdrop of shimmery paper roses embedded on the photobooth walls. The bride entered on a very traditional motiffed doli carried by her brothers to the beautiful circular mandap with its roof in a crisscross pattern of strips of pink and teal fabric. The well crafted mandap ceiling was designed in a manner as to allow the right kind of sunshine to shine directly into our mandap in the mornings of beautiful November. The entire mandap was accentuated with antique brass lotus, bells, tall beautiful traditional South Indian lamps, flowers and crystals interspersed with hanging flowers from the roof. The most magical, dreamy, and well detailed mandap I could think of. We had Tiffany chairs with the bow ties of the same theme and colours. This was followed by a reception in the banquet hall of Marriot itself. This event was more of a French theme with wooden frames, hanging glass bowls and fairy lights. I however wanted to go completely traditional in my outfit and so  dressed up in a traditional Kanchivaram pink and yellow saree. This saree had a peacock border and silver zari. The jewellery consisted of an antique chocker piece with pearls and rubies. The second piece was from Shriparamani Jewellers in Delhi, which was the Padmavat collection with jhumka’s and pearls along with rubies. Most of the sets were from Prathibha Jewellery house on residency road, Bangalore. My Matha Pati was one of the jewellery pieces that was most asked about and wanted. It was of course my grandmothers and an antique, irreplaceable one. The golden braid was dated back to 30 years during my mothers weddin , which I got to use again for mine with ruby jhumka earrings and a golden waist belt to complete the look.

My wedding was in November in the gorgeous lawns of JW Marriot Bangalore. We chose the JW Marriot as it had a beautiful outdoor lawn with a waterfall for the Muhurtham as we come from typical south Indian families. The indoor banquet hall was used for the reception. Marriot was our option also because it is in the prime central of the city , being in proximity for all our guests. Our cocktail was on the 10 th in the le meridian and the Mehendi and Haldi at home. We approached Poonam for the decor as she had also done my brother’s wedding which was really appreciated for its decor. Poonam is an exceptional wedding planner/decorator. She is always enthusiastic and would meet you multiple times and assure you that it would be a great show! Our event was definitely a great success with a hell lot of appreciation and wooo’ness. We decided on some really new and unique ideas like the colour schemes and use of wooden posts etc which gave it a more French and foreign look , these tiny ideas that made our wedding truly a special one.
