There is something beautifully timeless about a traditional bridal lehenga with zardozi work on it. Zardozi is something that will never go out of fashion, and we have seen that first-hand- brides have loved it before, and love it now too. While trends come and go, we are now seeing brides slowly going back to traditional picks, but with a modern twist, and the newer, fresher options we are seeing are honestly refreshing! We are especially crushing over the ones by RI Ritu Kumar, which instantly caught our attention.
From lehengas to sarees and even trendy Indo-western inspired outfits, we are loving the zardozi outfits by RI Ritu Kumar! After all, it was the veteran designer who set up her brand way back in 1969, and revived the age old Indian handicraft zardozi, which has only gone on to pick more and more popularity since then. And some of her outfits with zardozi work are literally GORGEOUS!
Over the years, zardozi has evolved in its own way, with the beautiful form of embroidery being done on different fabrics and with modern motifs, and it is refreshing, and so apt for the new age bride. But one thing that has remained constant and not too experimented with is the colour palette on which we get to see zardozi.
Usually seen on red or maroon fabrics, we are now seeing zardozi work on pastels and the likes, and not just pinks- on pretty hues of blue, green, orange and even yellows and golds!
And we are also loving the trendy new blouse designs in RI Ritu Kumar's collection- from strapless to plunging necklines, we are loving these for modern intimate weddings, and for bridesmaids too!
For the uninitiated, zardozi work finds its roots in Persia with zar meaning gold and dozi meaning sewing. It is a type of embroidery, which is typically heavy and elaborate on a silk, satin or velvet base. There are various designs which were originally created using gold and silver threads and can incorporate pearls, beads, and precious stones.
