We love it when a bride extensively uses WedMeGood for her wedding planning, and here is a bride who really included her in every aspect of her wedding! Real Bride Diya had her wedding abroad, but used WedMeGood to not only learn about Indian weddings and rituals, but also get ideas, inspiration and even customise her bridal outfits online! She found Sitara by Gx during one of the WedMeGood live fests, and we loved how all of her bridal outfits turned out- mind you, they were all picked and customised over Whatsapp! Take a look at this glorious Sydney wedding, which happened during Christmas time last year!

Meet Diya and Pulkit

We met in our final year of university when he interviewed me to join a college society. I had met one of his close friends the prior week and she reorganised the entire interview schedule so we would meet each other. She knew from the start that we were right for each other (and naturally she ended up giving our wedding toast). Pulkit then became my ‘buddy’ within the society - I only learnt years later that the 'buddy program’ was set up purely as a guise for him to hang out with me. 5.5 years later we got married!

Reception

From The Bride:

30 December 2021 (our per-wedding events started on 19 December): My husband and I grew up in Australia and are both of Indian origin but from different parts of the country - our wedding represented the union of our two cultures and religions. I loved seeing our two cultures unite in a burst of colour, love and joy as well as watching our Australian friends dressing up and embracing the madness.

We wanted a timeless, classic wedding style. My sister in law helped me choose a blush/ sage green theme which could be used across decor, flowers and outfits to tie everything together.

We also wanted our wedding to be as sustainable and ethical as possible, so we used a lot of native flowers and for bonbonnieres we donated to a charity in Hyderabad (my choices) and they gave us handmade elephant ornaments to distribute to guests (this was especially relevant since it was Christmas time)

It was important to us that our wedding was meaningful - to do this we handmade our wedding invitations and programs, and one of my close friends made personalised drawings of us for our programs. We also set up a 'Grandparents table' with wedding photos from generations before us to share our heritage and have our grandparents there in spirit.

I also really want to help other brides (particularly those new to Indian wedding planning like me) plan their weddings, so I've started an Instagram account with lots of tips and tricks - https://www.instagram.com/theshaadiplaybook/

About WedMeGood

I used the WedMeGood App for my wedding planning! At the start of wedding planning it became obvious that we couldn't travel to India for wedding shopping. Also, since I'm not Hindu I hadn't been to a traditional Indian wedding before my own so I had a lot of learning to do. WedMeGood was incredibly useful for this - I started by reading blogs about real weddings to get inspiration and then I joined the WMG live shopping fest. I watched at late hours of the night in Australia, and I'm so glad I did because that's how I discovered Sitara by Gkx. Sitara ended up providing all my wedding outfits and also connected us with Maahi who provided the groom's outfits. I also used the bridal wear part of the website extensively to find other designers within my budget.

Vendor Reviews

Venue: Doltone House Jones Bay Wharf

Doltone house was a wonderful venue that enabled us to hold our Pheras immediately before our reception. It was large enough to accommodate our big Indian wedding guest list, the location was perfect with plenty of space for guests to roam and mingle, the views of Sydney harbour were beautiful and most of all the staff were incredible and always willing to help. In particular, our wedding coordinate in the lead up (Cassandra) and our on-the-day coordinator (Mohit) were efficient, kind, treated us so well and catered to every need.

Makeup Artist: Gather and Stitch Beauty

The girls at Gather & Stitch made me look and feel beautiful! They communicated incredibly well in the lead up to the day, and on the wedding morning they were efficient, friendly and so talented at their craft. They even helped me get my lehenga on and taught me to fluff it up (something I would never have known). Incredible girls and wonderful service!

Photography: Russell Stafford Photography

Russ was the first piece of our wedding puzzle - we booked him even before finding a venue. And it was definitely the best decision ever! Russ and team were so easy to work with, so organised, very reliable and made us feel so comfortable and happy leading up to our wedding and on the day itself. We never felt posed or forced, everything felt so natural. And the pictures prove it - his work was a genuine reflection of our wedding day and his pictures are like art. Thank you Russ and team for your excellent sense of humour and for being so incredible and fun! You are magicians!

Decor: Decorashaan (Nita)

Nita was an incredible decorator. She was reliable, easily contactable, offered clear & transparent pricing and was a lovely human to work with.

Bridal Outfits: Sitara by gkx

The team at Sitara (especially Saira) were absolutely amazing through the outfit purchase process. Since we were buying everything remotely, we did everything over whatsapp and whatsapp video. The team was patient when helping me choose and customise outfits and were very detailed and careful in helping us take measurements. There were so wonderful that my mum, mother in law and sister in law also bought their outfits from Sitara.

Groomwear: Maahi design

Mukesh and the team at Maahi were absolutely wonderful in helping my husband custom make outfits for our wedding and ensuring his measurements were perfect. Everything was done over whatsapp, and they made the process so easy

Henna Artist: Henna by Vaishnavi

Vaishnavi was an absolutely wonderful mehendi artist. She understood what I wanted immediately and created a design far more beautiful than I could have thought of myself. Her henna was long lasting and she is a very talented artist.

Other Vendors

Black Cab central (Wedding Car): James was absolutely wonderful on our wedding day in December. He was very accommodating of all the chaos weddings can involve and his white cab made us feel like royalty. James himself is a wonderful human being and we would recommend his cabs in a heartbeat.

Original gelato (Ice cream for guests after wedding): Brian and his team were wonderful to work with for our wedding day. Their communication and work in the lead up were amazing and the gelato was a huge hit. I would very much recommend the team (especially for a December wedding in sydney!)

Spoon and Fork (Cake): The spoon and fork team were wonderful to work with for our wedding! Denin was incredible easy to work with, and so reliable and on top of all the logistics. The cake itself was absolutely beautiful and so delicious - we received so many compliments and we’d recommend spoon and fork in a heartbeat!
