You know what comes to mind when you think of weddings? That big Udaipur palace, lots of lights, lots of daaru, so much masti and lots of Manish Malhotra lehengas with a side of swinging hips. Classic image eh? Seen it somewhere though? Yes, in our favourite Bollywood shaadi. Whether it’s the very sweet Band Baaja Baraat or the very stylish Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, our idea of a perfect wedding came in the shape of happy people, classic sets and lots of dancing. So we decided to show you some really good decor ideas we ( kinda) stole from our regular bollywood films. Look, save and send it to your favourite wedding decorator today!

Palace Love: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

It is a modern fairy tale - Kalki’s wedding in Rajasthan with diyas and mughal architecture was the stuff of dreams. We loved the marigold bundles strewn about, the interesting backdrop and the royal wedding ideas that made it look like the best destination wedding to be part of. What we loved were the exceptional way diyas and marigolds were used in the Kabira song. While the multiple chandeliers, glorious mandap by the pool and the sweet twinkling lights made the nights look like a dream, it was the heritage backdrops, marigold hangings and kitschy colourful diwans and cushions that really stole the show by day.

Rustic , Outdoor Fun: 2 States

The movie was young and breezy and all things cute. And we half expected the final wedding scene to be a rather staid one. But no siree, the minimalist wedding by the beach at a temple was a big surprise. It was a south-indian wedding after all - but instead of all those ornate frills and tedious decor, the movie made us love the sparse floral hanging and cute umbrellas. The red and white colour theme made the wedding look like a traditional one but these minimalistic ideas made it more effortless and fun. Let’s not forget the other wedding that really came with it’s own ideas - the song where Iski Uski was featured. We loved the indo-arabic feel to the whole thing - the nice tents where people can chill, the flower lanterns that hung about carelessly and the Turkish lamps that gleamed in every colour. Love! Kitschy Times: Band Baaja Baraat We all know what Band Baaja Baraat gave us - it gave us a new insight into films and weddings. It made us wonder at the magic of the business and created a new star - Ranveer. But that aside, the weddings that these two catered to and their own wedding at the end was brimming with sweet ideas that one can really replicate. Whether it’s the marigold overload in the film’s romantic sequences or the sweet little red canopy we saw at the very first wedding the characters worked for - this movie kept it colourful and kitschy. Classy Affair: Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara Ah, the simplicity that the Akhtars come with. Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara came with it’s own classic ideas and great production values. And our favourite scene in the movie, you ask? Of course, the wedding scene in the end that almost followed a western wedding theme. Though for an Indian wedding, it came with no traditional trappings. The pastel and white colour themes along with floral decor were what we would see in Hollywood sets. There were white flowers all over the place and roses were used extensively in the decor. But our favourite bit is the heart-shaped floral arrangement in the pool - ah, a refreshing little wedding decor trick that had us at hello. Jumping into the pool with your wedding dress is a big NO-NO, but look at the photo-ops that came with this one. We also loved the beautiful jhulas ( swings) that were decorated with beautiful flowers that added the charm to the whole thing. Bold & Beautiful: Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania This movie is every girl’s wedding dream - what’s not love, there are so many weddings in it from start to the finish. And all or most of them come with the usual decor ideas - marigold curtains and twinkling lights - it is the little details in the movie that really caught our eye and boy, aren’t we glad. We loved the photo-ops where Alia makes a face with an empty frame - it was a cute idea and it never goes out of style. The bright lanterns too add to the glamour of the Chandigarh wedding along with the nice lorry that got pimped up with lights and flowers for people to dance on. Our personal favourite: the marigolds shaped like lanterns in the song, Daingad Daingad. Like they say, god is in the details. Subtle Fun: Hasee Tho Phasee Another day, another wedding movie. You know, for us at WMG, it’s a delight to know that the entire premise of the movie rests on the sweet little wedding. Ah, so much eye candy. And let’ s not forget the song that really got us addicted to all the drama: The Punjabi Wedding Song. We also love the song for other reasons - yes, the decor. We loved the lighted up stage for the girls to dance on, the huge ( like humongous) cage decor that came with light fixings and tulle additions to give it a dreamy look. And then there were hanging lights that came with net and white florals woven into them - so chic! Is there a movie we missed out? Something that really inspired you?
