Moms are super cute, but let's accept it- there's a wee bit of a generation gap when it comes to weddings! Parents want the wedding to be a certain way, and kids the other way- every parent wants the big fat Indian dream wedding within their means for their kids, but there are some things that we can agree to disagree with! Here's some wedding advice from your mom that you should ignore, but ummm.. in the sweetest way possible! After all, they do want what's best for you!

"It has to be a big wedding!"

Now that's something Indian parents say by default, it's just how they are! Indian parents save money all their lives so that one day then can spend it on their kids' wedding- but if that's something you do not want, a big fat Indian wedding, then there's no harm in letting them know, as long as your groom feels the same way too. Might require some coaxing, but intimate smaller weddings are a refreshing new trend now, where you don't have to invite or host people you haven't ever even met!

"You need to have 11 sarees in your trousseau "

There may have been a time where you needed 11 sarees but not anymore. Most girls hardly wear sarees for events anymore and buying some chic fusion outfits, draped dhotis, pant sarees make much more sense for a millennial bride looking to get a contemporary trousseau. Of course, do buy those classic sarees that never go out of style, but 11 is really no need.

"The bridal set needs to be big"

No it doesn't- chances are its smarter to layer smaller sets to give an illusion of a big set. This way you can wear individual sets later on instead of sitting around and wondering where you can reuse that big set again. Moreover, some of the loveliest brides wear delicate, jewellery that doesn't drown them.

"Don't skip that tradition!"

Well, there were a lot of traditions that were not negotiable before, but well, now you can get away with not following them! If you don't want to stick to some of them that seem too superstitious, old-fashioned or outdated, then you take a call! Don’t let yourself get pressured into observing any traditions you don’t feel fit in with your day- but coax her in the sweetest way possible without throwing a fit!

"Everyone has to be photographed- so you need a stage"

So you are stuck on stage for 4 hours just so people who will never make it to your wedding album are photographed? No can do missy. You can set aside a limited amount of photos maybe, but you can totally have a floating reception where you interact with your guests instead of being stuck on stage.
