We wont lie - we know a lot of our bride friends who got married only for those stunning bridal photographs (well, not only for the pictures. But those gorgeous photographs were a big motivation. Hehe) So now imagine, if after all that wait, your pictures came and in them you saw a white ghost posing alongside your man!

Nope, this isn't any bad dream. If your makeup is not right, all those stage lights can give you a ghost-like appearance, with lots and lots of powder on, in your wedding pictures.

Makeup for weddings can be a tricky affair. Of course you cannot have just anybody glam you up for one of the most important day of your life. So, we urge you to be truly selective to be able to make the right choice.

Take your time. And RESEARCH.

Here we give you a list of questions that you must ask before you book a makeup artist!

1. Will you be available on my wedding date (or week)?

Before you go ahead with other questions and decide if you want to book the artist, make sure they are available on your wedding dates.

2. What all services do you provide?

You must ask if the makeup artist you have shortlisted provides all the services you are looking for.  An average bridal package consists of makeup, hair styling and dupatta draping. You can also enquire if they offer any special bridal packages with selective services.

3. Would you be comfortable with HD and/or Airbrush makeup? (depending upon your requirement)

If you already know whether you want Airbrush or HD makeup for your wedding, convey so in advance.  And even if you think this is all gibberish, don't worry, girl! Consult your chosen makeup artist and ask them what would be better for your skin. Airbrush makeup is perfect for brides with oily skin whereas you should go for HD makeup if you want a softer, natural look.

4.  What all products will be used? And will you be using your own products or will I be supplying them?

In case you are allergic to certain products, or wish to use only selective products for your special day, you must convey the same to your makeup artist ahead of time.

5. How do you charge for your services and what are the terms of payment?

You must know about the charges and payment terms before you make the final booking. Convey your budget to your makeup artist and also ask about the following -

  • Price of each service
  • Total amount to be charged
  • Payment terms
  • Percentage of advance deposit
  • Cancellation policy and charges

6. Will I have to travel to your makeover studio or do you work at the wedding venue

Knowing whether you have to travel to the makeup studio will allow you to plan your time for the wedding day accordingly and also help avoid any confusions later.

7. Will you give a makeup trial before the wedding?

You must get a makeup trial before you make the final booking, This will help you understand your style and know more about the colors that would look good on you and the products that that would suit your skin type. You can also decide if your makeup would look good with the outfit that you have chosen for the function and also experiment with different hairstyles on your makeup trial.

8. Do you have a team of makeup artists or will you be the only artist who will do my makeup on the wedding day?

This is necessary if you are booking the makeup artist for not just yourself but your family members and friends.

9. Would you be carrying extra accessories for my appointment or should I get them myself?

Make sure you let your makeup artist know about all the products you would like to wear on your wedding day. These may include fake eyelashes, a particular shade of a nail paint, hair extensions or flowers, among other things. You must decide who would be getting all these accessories in advance to avoid last-minute hassles.

10. Do you have a Plan B in case of an emergency or you fall sick on the wedding day?

Emergencies can happen to anybody, but that should not bring your celebration to a halt. You must ask if the artist has any plan B in place to make sure that your celebration proceeds smoothly.

Don't refrain from asking questions. Make sure you have all your queries answered before you make the final booking. Hey hey, now don't worry! Just make sure you take it one step at a time, and you will be fine!
